My Romance Database

Hello and Welcome to my Romance Database. When I first started reading romances I was somewhat confused with remembering which authors and books I had read and liked, which I had not really liked, and which books I would be interested in reading. So I started creating a database so that I could better keep tracks of things.

I prefer reading historical romances, as compared to contemporaries, so most of the books in my database are historical romances. The first romances I ever read where Georgette Heyer's, and I think this has heavily influenced my tastes since, even today, I prefer reading romances set in the Regency period. So quite a big proportion of the books in my database are set in the Regency. I have also ventured in other historical eras, such as Victorian, Georgian and Medieval. The 'Genre' column tries to reflect the chronological setting of each book, although that may not be completely accurate. I have distinguished the Regency set books in "Regency" (traditional) and "Regency Historical" (the longer, historical ones), but I have also categorised as Regency set books that are not strictly in that period (1811-1820). Basically I have classified as regency everything set between 1800 and 1830. Those set later than that I have lumped as Victorian, and those earlier as Georgian. Everything set earlier is classified as Medieval. In some cases I have distinguished those set in the later Medieval times as Rennaisance, but this not very consistent. All those books are set in Europe. Those set in the US, I just called "American Historical", without further specifing the time or setting of the book. I also have a"Recent Historical" category which refers to the few books in my database that are set in the early 20th century. (The late 20th century ones I consider contemporaries).

Some books may have paranormal elements (eg time-travel, telepathy, witches, vampires etc). In many such cases I have indicated this as Paranormal, a category that applies to anything that defies the laws of physics or biology, without specifing further if it is Time-Travel, Vampire, fantasy world etc). In other cases I haven't, since categorising a book as Paranomral or Time Travel, would eliminate the information of the time setting (ie did the hero or heroine - usually the heroine! - timetravel to Medieval times or Regency?) So this field (Genre) is mostly indicative for the moment as far as paranormal elements are concerned and I need to update my database with more specific info.
